Happy New Year!

fireworks

It’s a new year with new possibilities, new opportunities, and new skies.

I’m looking forward to an end to the pandemic. Among other reasons, so my son can start college next year with the fresh start he deserves. And so our country can get back to normal.

As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been teaching high school full-time, so I’m still figuring out the balance to carve out some time to write. But I have been working on a new Paranormal Romance series. It’s set in the same world as Shifter Hunters Ltd. and Paris Harem, and features sexy cops.

Yup.

So, I’ll post excerpts and updates as I have them.

Let’s all be the best versions of ourselves this year, and help put our world right again.

Happy New Year!

Life Update: Lemons or Lemonade?

lemons or lemonade image

I haven’t talked much about my private life in this blog, and that has been to protect my family’s privacy and to keep my adult writing life separate from my children’s literature writing life. But, like for most folks, this year has been…well, a YEAR.

My husband lost his job due to the pandemic last spring and I lost my part-time temp position. I was a substitute teacher when the schools closed. There wasn’t any need for subs when all teachers were working from home. If one needed time off, they just assigned their students asynchronous, offline work.

Here’s where some lemonade comes in. A French teacher I know decided to take a leave of absence for this school year, as of the end of November, and I was hired as their substitute. So, now I have a job again, which is awesome. And it’s teaching French to high schoolers – again, awesome (okay, maybe this wouldn’t be awesome to everyone, lol).

More sweetness related to this job:

  • great, supportive, helpful colleagues
  • a relatively short commute
  • I’ve subbed in the building before, so I’m familiar with it
  • reasonable Covid precautions and high levels of compliance among the students
  • if we go all remote again, I’ll still have a job

Some tartness related to this job:

  • Teaching students in person and online at the same time is not as easy as it looks. The ones at home are harder to engage, rarely keep their cameras on, and rarely participate in class. It’s so much harder to get to know them and to build relationships.
  • The students in the classroom are scared and subdued and they also barely participate in class discussions. They’re wearing masks (a good thing) and also hoods or hats, meaning that I only see their eyes. It’s a lot harder to build relationships with them, too, in these circumstances.

I’m counting my blessings at having a job at all, but I often come home wanting to cry.

How are you holding up? Feel free to vent below.

Book 3

I’m pleased to announce that Barnes & Noble have chosen Saving Her Mates as a Top Indie Favorite for December and January. You can see all of their picks here.

As Christmas approaches, life has become calm once again and Catherine feels secure in her love for all three of her mates. But a job offer from home threatens to rob them of Reid. And they’re being targeted by a shifter hate group. This group is more organized and more determined than any the lovers have faced before.

Has Catherine’s luck finally run out or will she find a way to save her mates for good?

Saving Her Mates is the third and final part of the Paris Harem trilogy, a paranormal reverse harem romance with lots of suspense and heat!

Sexy Snippet Saturday: Lord of New York

She fell against the door, locking it, then jumped on Lucien, her legs wrapping around his waist, and continued to kiss him with the passion she’d been holding inside since she last saw him. She leaned back just enough to reach the hem of her tank to pull it over her head.

“Hang on,” he said. “If you’re in this bad shape, we don’t even have time for that.” He stood her on the floor, unzipped her jeans, and tugged them down. While she stepped out of them, he opened his own jeans and freed his erection.

“Oh god, yes,” she murmured, grabbing him.

“Tired?” she asked, only slightly disappointed. While she’d looked forward to what could happen between them tonight, all alone in this house, she was also happy to spend time with him, simply holding him.

“Hmm mmm.” He kept his eyes closed, but his lips quirked into a small grin.

“Want to sleep?” She placed a gentle kiss on those quirked lips.

His eyes flew open. “Hell, no. But I just want to hold you and smell you for a bit. Breathe you in.”

That sounded heavenly. Maybe not as much fun as spending the entire night giving each other pleasure, but still nice.

“What should I do if you fall asleep?” she asked.

“I won’t,” he said, “but you have my permission to smack me awake.”

“Really?” Her voice sharpened. She’d never wanted to hit him, not even to wipe a smirk off his gorgeous face, but now the idea had been planted.

His cock hardened against her. Guess he wasn’t actually in danger of falling asleep.

“Why, Reid, do you like it rough?” she asked, a definite teasing tone in her voice.

Another Peek Into My Life

A peek into my life

For this peek into my life, it’s time for another puppy update!

He’s doing great, but he still has some very mouthy, chewy times. During the last one, he chewed several large holes in his bed and swallowed a bit of stuffing. No worries, it all came out the other end without too much discomfort for any of us. So, we had to take the bed away until we could properly sew up the holes. I’d been repairing them with hot glue but he seemed attracted by the glue.

The poor thing really didn’t like not having his bed. He was hyper for the entire week it took until we could get it sewn, and wanted so much more attention from us than usual. We tried to take him on longer walks and play with him more outside, but none of it was good enough until he got his bed back.

When he did, he spent hours and hours on it, barely moving, so afraid it would be taken away again. He didn’t greet me or the boys at the door when we got home from school that first day, as he usually does. He only moved for his dinner. And then he ran straight back to his bed again.

So cute. And no new holes so far!

Please share a fun or heart-warming story about your furry love in the comments.

And Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers and friends! *gobble gobble*

Tori’s Teaser Tuesday: A Wolf Hunted From Hearts on Fire Charity Anthology

Tori's Teaser Tuesday

In honor of the release of the charity anthology Hearts on Fire, here’s a teaser from my contribution to the anthology, A Wolf Hunted.

This story chronicles how Dany and Guy from Wolves in Paris met and became mates.

As she approached the salon, a deep, rumbling man’s voice she didn’t recognize emanated from the room. Curious, she entered cautiously, Catherine on her heels.

At the sight of the owner of the deep, rumbling voice, Dany stopped dead and Catherine walked into her.

“Sorry,” Dany mumbled, moving into the room so as not to block her cousin.

In front of her, sitting on the leather couch with her brother, was a huge, muscular man with short dark hair, tan skin, and melty chocolate brown eyes.

He noticed her and stood.

Dany was not a short woman, but this guy towered over her. From his smell, she understood why. He was a bear shifter. The breed of bears known in the Pyrenees region of southwestern France.

Her brother, Lucien, scrambled to a standing position, his gaze darting between Dany and the stranger. “Oh, Guy, this is my sister, Dany. Dany, this is my friend from university, Guy Elizondo.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Guy said, leaning down to kiss her cheeks.

The touch of his cheek against hers sent electrical sparks through her body. But why? she wondered. She had Arnaud. She wasn’t looking for something else. She was happy with him, wasn’t she?
