Sexy Snippet Saturday: Waking her Wolf

Sexy Snippet Saturday

The kiss continued. His tongue ran across her lips and she opened. It was so sweet, so nice. And it had been so long since she’d kissed anyone.

She didn’t think about René, she didn’t think about her true feelings for Nico. She allowed herself to be lost in the kiss for the first time in two years.

His tongue slid against hers and she grew warm all over. She moaned into his mouth and the sound surprised her. She jumped back, away from him, her fingers touching her lips. Her body tingled and she knew what it wanted her to do. But she wasn’t ready.

“I’m sorry,” she said in a rush. “I shouldn’t have done that.”

His arms dropped from her and she immediately missed their warmth. Concern was once again etched into the hard lines of his ruggedly handsome face. “No, I’m sorry. Do you want me to walk you home? Or call you a cab?”

She shook her head vigorously. Her body was still on fire, and she wanted more.

For the love of reading

reading memorial

Normally, I keep religion and politics off this blog. What you believe in and what I believe in doesn’t have anything to do with enjoying my books. But today I’m going to make a tiny exception.

On Sunday I went to a memorial service for an 85-year-old woman I didn’t know. She’d spent her last 3 years at our local nursing home, where our synagogue does a service once a month. My son and I attended that service in July, and I sat next to her in her wheelchair, and turned the pages in the prayer book for her. She didn’t say a word, to me or in prayer, until the very end when she thanked me. Her daughter – a member of our synagogue – or her grandson usually came to be at the service with her, but they didn’t make it on this particular day.

She passed away a week later.

The reason I mention any of this is because I learned something really cool about her in her obituary: She loved to read mysteries! (I also love mysteries, despite what I write.) In her first year of retirement, she read 100 books. And she cataloged every book she read on index cards kept in those index card boxes that people tend not to use so much anymore. (Imagine if Goodreads had existed back in the late ’90s when she retired. This woman would’ve had impressive shelves.)

Her love of reading and my love of reading (and writing) connect us, even though we didn’t know each other. And these same things connect me to you, Dear Reader. We may not know each other, we may not share the same beliefs, but we share a love of reading. How transcendent!

If you’d like to let me get to know you, please leave a comment about a positive experience you’ve had with a stranger.

Bisous,
Tori

WIP Wednesday: Saving Their Wolf

WIP Wednesday Paris Harem

I’m currently working on a new series, The Paris Harem trilogy, which follows Dany and Lucien’s cousin, Catherine, a wolf shifter like the rest of the Malraux family. (Readers meet the Malraux family in Wolves of Paris.)

Catherine isn’t part of the family shifter hunting business; she’s a waitress hiding a tragic memory about a past relationship, and hiding from love. In Book 1, Saving Their Wolf, she’s moved back to Paris from the south of France, with a boyfriend in tow. But Catherine is drawn to two other men and there may be a reason the four of them have found each other.

On top of the unknowns in her love life, someone is threatening Catherine. Someone tied to her dead ex-boyfriend.

So, this is my first foray into reverse harem, and I’m thrilled that it takes place in the world of Wolves of Paris and Shifter Hunters Ltd. Catherine is very different from my shifter hunting protagonists. She loves pink and everything frilly and feminine. Since I live in a house full of guys, this may be my way of injecting some femininity into my world. In my teens, I was just like Catherine, but in college I turned away from pink and wore a lot of black. I found the color pink again after having my first son.

What do you think you need a little more of in your life? And how do you treat yourself?

Tori’s Teaser Tuesday: Waking Her Wolf

Around the middle of the afternoon, there was a knock on her door. Puzzled, she looked through the peephole and saw Nicholas. Swinging open the door, she asked, “What are you doing here?”

He smiled and held up a reusable bag from the grocery store on the corner of her street. “I want to cook with you.”

She stepped back to let him in. “What are you making?”

Cassoulet.” Her stomach rumbled in response and they both laughed. Now that he was inside she could smell sausage in his bag as well as the clean soapy odor of him.

She poured them each a glass of red wine and perched on a stool to watch him cook. She’d always loved watching him cook, but it had always just been something fun and filled with camaraderie between them. Now that she and Dany had spoken, she couldn’t help noticing the muscles on his forearm as he chopped onions. And his clean manly scent mixed with the smell of the sausage and other ingredients while the cassoulet baked, and it was intoxicating. She watched him sip wine and prepare a salad and make a homemade vinaigrette, and she wondered how she had never noticed before how handsome her best friend was.

Teaser from Waking Her Wolf, a Paris Harem prequel short story

A peek into my life…

When I first started dating my husband, he had a 2-year-old nephew, AJ. An active little boy with sparkling eyes and a mischievous smile. I fell for that little boy before I fell for my husband!

AJ spent a weekend with us when we first got married. We took him to Liberty Science Center and fed him PB&J sandwiches in front of cartoons. We had a blast!

When we had our first child, we moved four hours away from AJ. Luckily, we still saw him (and the rest of the family) for holidays – and he spent a week here or there with us during school vacations. My boys adore their big cousin. They built a snowman together, went sledding, watched movies, played with trains. My guys climbed all over him, brought him to their swim lessons, shared their favorite foods and movies.

Now, AJ is a grown man in the military, stationed thousands of miles away. He calls each of us on our birthday, as well as me on Mother’s Day and my husband on Father’s Day. He asks about my writing and always says he’s going to read my books. He’s interested in the things we all do. The adorable little boy with sparkling eyes and a mischievous smile has grown into an amazing man, who is about to go on his first overseas deployment to protect our country and all the people he loves.

I have always been a bleeding heart idealist, but…

I couldn’t be more proud of him.

And I hope he returns to us, safe and sound, very soon.

Godspeed, AJ. We love you.

WIP Wednesday: Shifter Hunters in Paris

WIP Wednesday SHP

Shifter Hunters in Paris is a spin-off of Wolves of Paris, Book 2 of the Shifter Hunters Ltd. trilogy. In Wolves of Paris, we meet Lucien’s sister Dany and her boyfriend, Guy, who can barely keep their hands off each other. I thought it might be fun to show you how Dany and Guy met and fell in love, so I wrote a prequel short story (which still doesn’t have a name).

In the nameless short, Dany is a college student and has no intention of going into the family shifter hunting business. Guy, a bear shifter from the southwest of France, goes to business school with Lucien. When they first meet, sparks fly (as shown in Tori’s Teaser Tuesday from 6/26).

But someone is stalking Dany, and she kind of has a boyfriend. So, she has a lot to figure out before she can decide she even wants to get to know Guy.

So that’s what it’s about. The series will be called Shifter Hunters in Paris, but none of the books (or this prequel) have a name. Each book in the series will have some mystery and suspense. Share your ideas in the comments! I might just pick yours (in which case, I’ll acknowledge you in the books you give me the titles for).

Tori’s Teaser Tuesday: A Wolf Hunted

As she approached the salon, a deep, rumbling man’s voice she didn’t recognize emanated from the room. Curious, she entered cautiously, Catherine on her heels.

At the sight of the owner of the deep, rumbling voice, Dany stopped dead and Catherine walked into her.

“Sorry,” Dany mumbled, moving into the room so as not to block her cousin.

In front of her, sitting on the leather couch with her brother, was a huge, muscular man with short dark hair, tan skin, and melty chocolate brown eyes.

He noticed her and stood.

Dany was not a short woman, but this guy towered over her. From his smell, she understood why. He was a bear shifter. The breed of bears known in the Pyrenees region of southwestern France.

Her brother, Lucien, scrambled to a standing position, his gaze darting between Dany and the stranger. “Oh, Guy, this is my sister, Dany. Dany, this is my friend from university, Guy Elizondo.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Guy said, leaning down to kiss her cheeks.

The touch of his cheek against hers sent electrical sparks through her body. But why? she wondered. She had Arnaud. She wasn’t looking for something else. She was happy with him, wasn’t she?

Teaser from the short story, A Wolf Hunted, appearing in the Shades of Pink, Vol. 4, anthology in October 2019.
